Daria Rose and the Day She Chose is a children’s picture book about a week in a young girl’s life. Negative things happen to her throughout the week and she realizes with the help of her Mom, that she has the power within to turn the various situations around to be positive.
Question: Daria Rose is lucky to have such a supportive Mom. What is the main ingredient in being a good Mom?
Answer: Love, patience and respect. Be a good listener and read between the lines. Guide your child to come up with the answer to the problem themselves.
Question: If a child doesn’t have supportive parents, who is the next best person outside of the home to turn to?
Answer: On my website I have The Inspiration Of The Day. This was one of my posts:
Always remember you are never alone. If you ever have a problem or don’t know what to do talk to a parent, a teacher, a brother, a sister a family member or a friend. You are never alone. There is always someone that can help you!
Question: Sometimes ‘be yourself’ is easier said than done. What is the most effective starting point for a child?
Answer: I always tell children to do what they think is right and not let the behavior of others change how they feel about themselves. Everyone has their own talents and gifts. I tell them “dare to be different and be the best you, you can be.”
Question: What does the real Daria Rose think of the book?
Answer: After the book was released, Daria said to me, “I’m really proud of you Mom, I’m happy if your book can help other children.”
Question: An old saying: “Fear knocked, faith answered. There was nobody home.” What are your thoughts on this?
Answer: Throughout Daria Rose and The Day She Chose, there are examples of not letting fear stop you from doing what you know to be right.
Here are three sentences from the story:
“Don’t let fear stop you from making the right decisions.”
“Have confidence and make good choices and don’t let fear stop you.”
“She would no longer let her days be controlled by what others thought or how others behaved. She would make decisions with confidence and not out of fear of what might happen.”
Question: Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” Once we conquer our demons, do we ever run out of fears?
Answer: Throughout life we may be confronted by different fears. Just like in the story, I recommend to children that they ask themselves this question — “what is the worst thing that can happen?” This can help them put their fears into perspective and guide them to a resolution.
Question: In Hypnotherapy, they have a technique called End Result Imagery in which you use your senses to imagine how a new job, new home, mastering a sport, language or other skill feels. Tell me a time in which you used End Result Imagery and what results came about.
Answer: I have used this technique when I have applied for various Book Awards. I print out a picture of the award seal and tape it to the bottom of my computer monitor, where I can see it whenever I’m on my computer. I have had the honor of receiving five awards so far.
Question: Another practice I successfully use is the Law of Reversed Effort. This is doing all you can to bring something about, then letting go if the outcome. This has worked in job interviews, relationships and performance evaluations. Do you have a success story to share using this principle?
Answer: I did my best to ensure that Daria Rose and The Day She Chose was a success. I am happy to say it has been well received and honored that the book hit Amazon’s bestseller list in two categories (self-esteem and bullying).
Question: You have Daria Rose ask herself five questions in helping to mold a better future for herself. Do you have a real life example of this in action?
Answer: I used each of the five questions as I created Daria Rose and The Day She Chose. It definitely help me get through some of the struggles of publishing a children’s book.
What do I want to happen?
What do I need to do to make it happen?
What am I afraid of and what is the worst think that can happen?
Whom could I ask to help me?
Will my decisions make things better?
Question: I don’t see a Dad in your book. What advice do you have for all the Dads and Dads-to-be out there?
Answer: Whether you’re a Mom or a Dad the lessons in the story are the same. I would like to stress the importance of respect. Fathers are the role models for how their daughters will allow males in their lives to treat them, so respect is extremely important.
Question: I see that you’re a children’s motivational speaker. Besides conquering fear and empowering children to choose a better destiny, what subjects do you address in your talks?
Answer: Along with the Daria Rose and The Day She Chose story, I play a fun and interactive game Daria Rose and What Do You Think She Chose? Different colored question cards represent various character building skills: Honesty, Kindness, Empathy, Hope, Self Esteem, Friendship, Determination, Compromise, Doing The Hard Work In Order To Succeed, etc… The children really get into the game. It is extremely educational, but at the same time a lot of fun. I also impress upon them the importance of reading. That the more you read the smarter you become. Reading is knowledge and knowledge is power. With knowledge you can make your dreams come true and do your part to make the world a better place.
Question: Sometimes children are comfortable just making a change in many small steps. What are your thoughts on this?
Answer: When I am facing a difficult task, I take one small step towards the resolution. I keep taking small steps and before I know it, I’ve reached my goal. I’ve always told my daughter “CAN’T IS NOT IN OUR DICTIONARY, keep a positive ATTITUDE. Think about what your end goal is, break it up into small steps and take one small step at a time and before you know it you reach success.” All things are possible! We can do amazing things if we have faith in ourselves and stay determined.” You are braver than you believe and smarter than you think! We must PLAN, take ACTION and BE DETERMINED. If the path less traveled were the easy path, then everyone would take it, and that would make GREATNESS simply average. Great things take time, patience and determination!

Question: Have you received any fan mail describing success stories your book has inspired?
Answer: Yes, every time I receive a thank you email or positive review from a parent or grandparent who has read Daria Rose and The Day She Chose with a child, it confirms to me that writing positive character building books for children is my life’s purpose. This is what I’m supposed to be doing.
